Back and Better Than Ever
Join us as we stream live from Fairmont Copley Plaza, the grand dame of Boston! We will meet Chef Zaid Khan of Oak Long Bar + Kitchen and follow with a discussion with Fairmont's own Human Resource Manager, Deirdre Macrorie. We'll chat talk about resume building, what businesses are looking for in applicants and what is attractive in the hiring process.
Since joining the Fairmont team Deirdre has proved to be a dynamic, caring, driven leader while maintaining excellent employee relations with what was and will be again a 410 colleague union Hotel environment. This past year she has faced heartbreaking colleague furloughs, layoffs and more. Now, with the hospitality industry clawing its way out of quick sand, Deirdre will begin the process of re-hires, un-furloughs and new-hires. She is an expert in what an HR team will look for when you are applying for your next job, whether now or in the future.
A MESSAGE FROM THE NACE BOSTON CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Happy Spring NACE Boston,
As the world slowly reopens and the sun shines more day by day, I can’t help but smile a little bigger, under my mask, and be giddy for the reopening of our event industry. We’ve weathered the worst of it in 2020, and now we’ve made it to the beginning of 2021’s event season! What a journey!
Our businesses and lives have changed immensely since the beginning of the pandemic. But that doesn’t mean things will return exactly back to normal after we eradicate Covid-19. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it has been to value time with our family, time spent outdoors and, most importantly, time for ourselves.
This is our moment.
As tables are set, tents are erected and votive candles are lit, let’s not forget that commitment we made to ourselves during this journey. This is our opportunity to start fresh and be better at taking care of ourselves and our mental health. We all know how easy it is to fall back into old habits, so let’s remind each other that in order to be great at our jobs, we have to be our best selves inside and out.
Being our best selves also includes being accountable for our actions and statements. For our chapter, that means continuing our diversity and inclusivity efforts and continuing to host welcoming and safe events for everyone. I encourage everyone to do the same and follow through on their messages and sentiments of hope for those who are underrepresented.
NACE Boston wants to support you to be your best self--both personally and professionally. As such, we will always be here to help educate and enlighten everyone, and we can’t wait to safely re-open the event season with you.
“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” - Madonna
